Nature in the National Park is widely left to its own devices. However, this does not mean that people are not allowed to enter the Park, quite the opposite. Here you can get really close to nature. In 2005 Harz National Park was the first German national park to become a member of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas. This happened for two reasons. Firstly, we put emphasis on the sustainability of tourism development, and at the same time we are in active cooperation with everyone caring about tourism in our region.
