Capercaillie enclosure
The capercaillie enclosure lies in the southern Harz near Lonau
In the lovely beech forests of the southern Harz, near the small village of Lonau, you will find the capercaillie enclosure. You can get to the enclosure by taking a short walk from the centre of the village through the meadows around Lonau.
Visitors can see the impressive male capercaillie, which attracts some attention with its unique courtship call in spring, as well as the female counterparts, which are carefully camouflaged. The enclosure also houses black grouse and hazel grouse. All in all it is an interesting open air hen house.
